In co-operation with other UN/CEFACT Groups, it develops data models, layouts, EDI guidelines, box completion guidelines and the mappings between them. It looks for existing standards to express layouts of forms in an open and reusable manner. TBG2 also investigates the storage of standard metadata for forms, i.e. it looks for layout equivalents for the data model layer and does not only focus on an instance layer

Most documents and their layouts have owners and stakeholders and TBG2 only works on documents with their commitment. TBG2 encourages industrial and national implementations, which are expected to be based on project deliverables.
